REA’s February Auction Breaks Records

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) hit it out of the park with their recent February auction, raking in an impressive $1.2 million in sales. The star of the show was a PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card that fetched a jaw-dropping $75,000, setting a new record for its version and proving that vintage sports cards are still highly sought after.

Not to be outdone, a Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same series, graded PSA GOOD 2, made waves by smashing its condition record with a $15,000 sale. The auction drew in a crowd of registry builders and collectors, with particular interest in the ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among them, the #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stole the spotlight, commanding an impressive $19,200, the highest price for a non-Hall of Famer card from the set in its grade.

The lineup of 2,732 items at the auction offered a diverse array of collectibles, with standout sales including a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background PSA VG-EX 4 card selling for $21,000, a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig PSA EX-MT 6 going for $18,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball PSA NM-MT 8 Complete Set fetching $12,000, among other notable sales.

REA’s President, Brian Dwyer, expressed satisfaction with the auction’s broad appeal and the enthusiastic response from the collector community. He hinted at the exciting prospects in store for the upcoming March and Spring Auctions, promising more thrilling opportunities for hobbyists and enthusiasts.

This successful auction by REA not only reaffirms the enduring allure and value of vintage sports cards and memorabilia but also paves the way for future events that hold the promise of excitement and discovery for collectors and fans alike. With the next Encore event slated for March 14-24 and the Spring Catalog Auction kicking off on April 5, REA continues to solidify its position as a premier destination for all things sports collectibles.
