REA’s May Encore Auction Showcases Historic Baseball Card Sets and Rare Memorabilia

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) is currently enticing sports collectors with its May Encore auction, a dazzling display of over 3,600 lots filled with vintage baseball card sets and rare sports memorabilia. This grand event promises to take enthusiasts on a nostalgic journey through the annals of sports history, offering everything from complete 1950s baseball card sets to unique items such as a check signed by the illustrious Honus Wagner shortly after his baseball career concluded.

Embarking on this thrilling auction commenced on Thursday, with a timeline stretching over ten days to ensure every aficionado gets a chance to partake. Among the initial standout lots stealing the spotlight is the coveted T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card dating back to 1909-1911, featuring a rare Uzit back. Another gem up for grabs is a Ty Cobb rookie card hailing from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, adding an extra layer of allure to the collection.

The auction also boasts an assortment of vintage baseball sets, including the complete 1957 Topps Set and a near-complete 1958 Topps set. Furthermore, the event showcases several high-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps sets, with rookie cards of baseball icons like Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax sparking excitement among bidders. Additionally, enthusiasts can look forward to a complete set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set, a rare opportunity to own a piece of baseball history.

In addition to the impressive array of cards, the auction features unique memorabilia pieces for sports history buffs. These include a ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game and a 1920 Real Photo Postcard capturing the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl.

REA President Brian Dwyer is brimming with enthusiasm about the auction’s offerings, pointing out the exceptional quality of the lots following the overwhelming success of their $15.4 million spring sale. Dwyer emphasized the strong interest among collectors and the premium value attached to the items on auction, underscoring the significance of this event in the sports collectibles world.

Those eager to partake can engage in the auction until May 19 on the REA website, with every item commencing at a modest bid of $10. This auction not only presents a remarkable opportunity for collectors to acquire rare and premium sports memorabilia but also serves as a tribute to the timeless legacy of sports collectibles.
