Jordan Rookie Card Sets Record, Kelce Jersey Highlights Auction

The world of high-end sports memorabilia continues to draw attention and hefty bids at Goldin’s August Elite Auction. The auction showcased a range of modern cards and memorabilia, with many items breaking the six-figure mark and setting new records in the sports collectibles market.

Topping the sale was a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan card, fetching an impressive $244,000 and establishing a new record for its grade. This sale followed hot on the heels of a PSA 7 Jordan Star Company rookie card that found a new home for $62,000 on eBay, showcasing the growing momentum of the market for Jordan’s debut NBA licensed trading card. Another highlight was a PSA 6.5 version of the card, fetching $52,460.

One of the standout pieces from the auction was a unique 1-of-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of MLB powerhouse Mike Trout. Despite Trout’s recent struggles with injuries, the card, graded PSA 9, garnered an impressive $192,030. Additionally, modern baseball cards set new records, with a 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper #5/5, graded PSA 9, selling for $184,720, and a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts #3/5, graded PSA 10, earning $123,220.

The auction also saw high demand for 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards, with the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 commanding $116,534 and a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 fetching $68,527, setting new high prices for these players in the public eye.

An exciting highlight was a dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from 2023-24 Topps UEFA, which sold for $67,100 after receiving a PSA 9 grade. This special card was pulled by a breaker in England and consigned to Goldin at the London Card Show, adding a unique story to its value.

Turning to memorabilia, Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, photomatched to the Chiefs’ loss to the Buccaneers, stole the show with a final bid of $52,460. Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season also intrigued bidders, selling for $34,404. Another notable sale included an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, photomatched to one of his 52 home runs, which fetched $51,240.

Noteworthy sales also featured in the auction were the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA #77/99 at $95,770, the 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani #22/75 graded PSA 9 at $74,450, a 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey photomatched to eight trading cards at $51,240, and the 1969 Topps Football Series 1 and Series 2 wax boxes selling for $32,940 and $31,721, respectively.

Goldin’s August Elite Auction once again highlighted the enduring popularity and value of both vintage and modern sports collectibles. Record-breaking sales underscored the passion and commitment of collectors in the ever-evolving sports memorabilia market.
